2019 PG 18u World Series Scout Notes Southpaw Tyler Watson (2020, Johns Creek, Ga.) toed the bump for the Yanks in their first game victory over the Miramar Canes. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Georgia Tech commit is a smooth-tossing, mechanically sound strike thrower. His easy style allows him to consistently pound the zone with a very active fastball that was thrown to both sides of the plate. He complemented his well-commanded heater with a sharp breaking and tight spinning curveball that showed late depth at the dish. | |||||||||||||||||||||
2018 WWBA World Championship - Jupiter, FL - Day 2 Scouting Notes Tyler Watson (2020, Johns Creek, Ga.) took to the bump following Watson-Garcia’s exceptional outing and was just as impressive. The lefthanded junior at Johns Creek HS, was outstanding in mixing and matching a solid two-pitch mix, that was thrown with a plan and purpose. His two-seamer was clocked at between 80 and 83 mph and showed advanced arm side run and sink. His out pitch was his tight-spinning curveball (69-73 mph) that he added and subtracted speeds on. He recorded a number of looking strikes and/or weak swings for easy outs. His repeatable mechanics and smooth and easy style allowed the poised southpaw to dominate for three-plus solid innings.

Control is outstanding as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Tyler will gets looks from the collegiate coaches with his abilities on the mound. 08/01/2018 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Tyler is a coachable LHP prospect who worked hard on his skills during his time at the National World Series at Pirate City. On the mound, Tyler shows a good rhythm and works with a loose, clean arm action. He has a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out a 82mph. Breaking ball sits from 66-68mph with 1-7 break. Changeup ranges from 66-68mph with good arm side run as he throws with fastball arm speed. Tyler can improve as a pitcher by gathering to a balance point over the rubber. Overall, Tyler is a solid prospect who has the potential to contribute at the next level. 2018 - Under Armour Baseball Factory: Tyler is very projectable. He has solid command of the fastball with great command of his secondary pitches as well. He does a great job getting on top of off-speed pitches and releases all three pitches from the same slot. Work on driving through with the lower half to increase velocity. 2017 - Perfect Game: Tyler Watson is a 2020 LHP/1B with a 6-1 165 lb. frame from Johns Creek, GA who attends Johns Creek HS. Lean and wiry build with lots of room to fill out and get stronger. Smooth and repeatable mechanics, stays on line well with few moving parts, good line and direction to the plate, 3/4's arm slot, very well coached and executed mechanics. Fastball topped out at 80 mph, ball comes out of his hand easily, gets good run and sink at the plate, plenty more velocity in there. Maintains his arm speed and release point well on his secondary pitches, gets good depth on his curveball with tight spin, has nice feel out front on his change up. Throws all his pitches for strikes and has the ability to mix. Just a matter of the strength kicking in for him to improve. Left handed hitter, exaggerated inside swing path, downward swing plane. Showed good athleticism at first base defensively. Very good student. 2017 - Georgia Dugout Club Top 100: "Tyler gets good extension out front with his release point which will lead to good action and velocity on his pitches. Tyler gets to a consistent balance point/load when his leg lifts. His stride is at a good distance in relation to his height. His fastball was 75. Tyler has good sink and cut on his fastball. His change up Tyler threw was clocked at 70. He has good sink on arm side with his change up." |

Personal, Academic and Extracurricular 3.7 GPA Winning Team - Best Prototype at the 2019 Bright Spark Invention Challenge National Society of High School Scholars 2017 DECA Hello, my name is Tyler Watson and I am a left-handed pitcher. I have always had a love and a passion for the game of baseball. Not just for the physical part of pitching, but also for the mental and strategic part as well. My favorite part about being a pitcher is my ability to control the time and tempo of the game. Before every pitch, I make sure that I am fully aware of the situation and what is going on around me. Whether it is noticing the batter’s physical appearance, his swing path, or where he is in the batting order plays a huge factor in what and where my next pitch will go. I also consider how many runners are on base and where I would need to be on a bunt or backup situation. I take as much time developing my mental game as I do perfecting my mechanics to keep my arm healthy. I put a lot of thought and care into my training by creating a pre-game and post-game routine followed by a recovery process the next day. I also have either a general workout and/or bullpen day to keep my body ready for the next outing. I believe that putting in extra work and going the extra mile off the field allows me to perform my best on the mound. It is very important to know that I am not only pitching for myself, but that I am also pitching for my team. When I step foot on that field, I know that I am out there fighting for a brotherhood, where I know my teammates have my back and I have theirs. The feeling of being on a team gives me confidence and drives me forward to execute and do my job and to me that is the best feeling in the world. I am also an excellent student in the classroom, and I take pride in my 3.9 GPA. I always do my homework and work hard to make sure I am completely prepared for every test and quiz. I am interested in engineering and I plan on majoring in civil engineering or architecture. In my free time, I enjoy going golfing and fishing. I also enjoy listening to country and classic rock music. I have developed a strong relationship with Christ, where I know that I can do anything through Him who strengthens me. |
